3 Territories in the Japanese Prefecture Getting More Time for the Olympic Torch Relay

Three areas in northeastern Japan, Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures, which were hit by the earthquake and tsunami disaster in March 2011, are expected to receive longer time allocations for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic torch relay for three days, according to the information on Wednesday (5/4).

According to sources, the Olympic torch will spend about 15 days in Tokyo.

In addition to the above three prefectures, other prefectures such as Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa, and Shizuoka that provide facilities for several sports games will be given three days, while 39 other prefectures will have two days each.

The organizing committee for the Tokyo Olympics will hold a meeting on April 10 with government officials, the Tokyo government and the National Association of Governors. At the conference, the committees hoped to get approval for the planned number of days at the Olympic torch relay event.
